Those that have been in substantial relationships with a United Kingdom citizen (or someone permanently settled in the UK) but have yet to marry – or opting not to marry – are going to want to apply for and receive the UK unmarried partners visa before attempting to enter the United Kingdom.
A visa program established for those in long-term but unmarried relationships, civil partnerships, and same-sex relationships, there are a number of very important criteria that you need to meet before you begin the application process.
Many of these requirements are the same as those criteria that married partners need to provide, though the final documentation that you need to fill out and submit with your application will be quite a bit different.
For the most part, you’ll need to prove that you and your partner:
Are both 18 years of age or older
That one of you is a British citizen or permanently settled in the United Kingdom, that you are not related by blood
That you and your partner have met in person and have been in a substantial relationship for at least two years before applying for the UK unmarried partners visa
And that you meet all suitability, financial, and English language requirements
